EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Temporary, Part-Time
SALARY RANGE: $15.00 per hour

Note: This is a part-time position working no more than 17 hours per week with no benefits.

 

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Inclusive Coordinator, lead the Inclusive Cooking class. Our Inclusive Cooking Class is a beginning cooking class for adults with developmental disabilities. The cook, possibly with the help of volunteers, would be responsible for instructing 8-12 adults on simple beginner recipes that they could possibly cook on their own. The class is meant to be hands-on for the participants. You will have access to the Home-Ec room at Saghalie Middle School with several cooking stations. Experience working with people with disabilities is not a requirement but is desirable. A successful candidate will have desire to work with and to help those with developmental disabilities.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Responsible for own transportation to and from various job sites.
    • Develop Cooking curriculum for each month
    • Lead and instruct individuals on the basics of cooking and recipes.
    • Work with and lead volunteers in the classroom setting.
    • Purchase supplies and food for the class each week if necessary.
    • Ability to take initiative, make sound decisions, and trouble shoot problematic situations in an independent manner.
    • Reporting incidents immediately and filling out necessary paperwork.
    • Attend class until all participants are picked up.
    • Take attendance for each class.
    • Attend required meetings and trainings.
    • Return emails/phone call(s) within a reasonable amount of time,
    • Communicate with the public by demonstrating a professional attitude as a representative of the City of Federal Way.
    • Ensure the safety of participants at all times.
    • Complete other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • At least one year of supervisory experience working with people with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
    • At least one year experience instructing cooking or professional cooking experience is strongly preferred.
    • Must be First Aid & CPR certified
    • Ability to take initiative, make sound decisions, and trouble shoot problematic situations in an independent manner.
    • Valid Washington State driver’s license
    • Responsible for own transportation to and from various job sites.
    • Ability to successfully pass Background check
