EMPLOYMENT STATUS:      Temporary, Part-Time

SALARY RANGE:                $11.00 - $16.00/hour*

NOTE: This is a temporary, part-time position with no benefits. Hours may vary depending on facility usage. Shifts may include day, evening, weekend and holiday hours.

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under the general direction of the Performing Arts and Event Center (PAEC) Executive Director, the Arts Education Assistant is responsible for the development and operational management of the Arts Education Program including developing relationships with educators; administering outreach to the schools; overseeing the development of study guides and lesson plans designed to meet curriculum standards for K- 12 students; working with Patrons Services to implement the Arts for Youth programs; facilitating outreach efforts to publicize programs to school districts; and providing supervision and oversight of volunteer docents to encourage strong participation. The Arts Education Assistant will collaborate with the Development Supervisor/ Grant Writer on the evaluation of activities and outcome-based assessments to measure the short-term project outcomes and long-term goals for students, teachers, schools and home-schooled participation.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public groups, agencies and school officials.
  • Coordinate the Arts Education Program and schedule Arts Education outreach workshops with schools and artists.
  • Design and prepare materials for outreaches including timesheets, rosters, evaluation forms, registration forms, and lesson plans.
  • Track reservations, payments and outstanding invoices for each school performance. Field phone calls, faxes and the occasional drop-in for questions or concerns surrounding school shows.
  • Administer evaluations to measure content and satisfaction. Also track data for grant information as well as programming needs.
  • Oversee and train volunteers to support school visits; orientate and create content for docent visits and schedule docents for classroom visits.
  • Coordinate with marketing coordinator for creation of publicity materials including flyers, emails, etc. to promote non-public events (arts education and outreach programs).
  • Assist in writing and editing copy for season brochures and newsletters. Also assist in coordination of all mass mailings through the department. Manage mail lists for Education “bundling” ensuring approval through the school district for distribution.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF & ABILITIES TO: 

  • Methods, techniques, and principles in the development of a variety of Arts Education Programs.
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse audience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Outstanding organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of educative trends, specifically in the arts.
  • Microsoft Office and desktop publishing software and local/community resources.
  • Successful implementation of education and outreach programs that will reach across and engage all of our school districts within the region.
  • Must have the ability to work days, weekends and some holidays.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Any combination equivalent to: High School graduation or equivalent, plus some college coursework or other training in education or arts; and two years of experience in education, arts education preferred.
