Water Quality Monitoring
Surface Water System
Protect Our Habitat Logo
A wealth of surface water resources can be found within the City of Federal Way – from the Puget Sound shoreline and estuaries to fresh water streams, lakes and wetlands. The Surface Water Management Division is charged with keeping clean and protecting the health of these water bodies for the benefit of the citizens of Federal Way and for future generations.

Monitoring the quality of the surface water system is an important component of the program. SWM maintains and operates water quality instruments throughout the city that continuously detect and record pollutant levels of concern. In addition, biological monitoring is performed annually in selected streams to help us gauge the condition of the aquatic habitat, water quality and overall ecosystem productivity.
