The Federal Way Public Works Department is organized into six divisions. The following briefly describes the functions of each division:

Administrative Division: Provides the overall management of the department and also provides Emergency Management coordination.

Development Services Division: Reviews civil engineering plans and conducts inspections on residential and commercial developments.

Traffic Division: Provides transportation planning, traffic operation improvements, and neighborhood traffic services.

Street Systems Division: Maintains the local street system and oversees all capital street projects.

Surface Water Management Division: Manages the City's natural and man-made surface water system by providing surface water systems improvements and maintenance functions.

Solid Waste & Recycling Division: Manages the solid waste and recycling contract.
